Artistic Excellence

The Mayerson Artistic Excellence Program at SCPA enhances and extends the pre-collegiate, pre-professional curriculum of the only public K-12 school of the arts in the United States through a Master Artists Series and an Artists-in-Residence Program.

Beginning in 2009, the Mayerson Artistic Excellence Program presents master classes, workshops, and clinics by some of the world's greatest artists, musicians, dancers and writers across the seven arts disciplines at SCPA. In addition, the Artistic Excellence Program supports school year-long instruction for SCPA students by the resident artists of Cincinnati's world-class arts organizations including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Opera, and the Contemporary Arts Organizations.

The Artistic Excellence Program has presented over 140 master classes at SCPA (as of May,2017). Among the renowned performers have been Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Midori and Hillary Hahn; Chick Corea, Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride and Benny Golson; Bebe Neuwirth, Lea Salonga and Sutton Foster; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Dance Theatre of Harlem; Nico Muhly and Jennifer Higdon; New York Voices and the Globe Shakespeare Theatre. These master classes become some of the highlights of SCPA students' high school transcripts and pave the way toward their acceptance to some of the finest colleges of art and music in the country.
